Frequently Asked Questions

You Asked, We Answered

People choose to come to therapy for many reasons. Perhaps you're dealing with long-standing issues that get in the way of the life you'd like to live, or you're dealing with unexpected changes and stressors that feel overwhelming. Therapy offers you the time and attention to pursue personal exploration and growth. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support and new tools for life's challenges. It can help you achieve greater self-awareness and transformative changes in your life.

Making that initial phone call can be difficult if you're not sure what to expect or the questions to ask. Here are some commonly asked questions and answers.

How long and how often are sessions?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes. When we first begin work together, sessions take place on a weekly basis. People often enter into therapy after struggling on their own with an issue or issues for some time. Weekly sessions provide consistency, create momentum, increase motivation, help crystalize goals, and create the necessary time and space to effect those changes. Clients who adhere to weekly sessions often experience more positive and effective outcomes. As therapy progresses, we can work together to determine if weekly sessions will continue to be useful. Some people will find that as they begin to heal and grow, fewer sessions are needed. The frequency of sessions can be adjusted in order to best meet your needs and maintain growth and change.

How long will I be in therapy?

Everyone comes to therapy with different issues and goals. Because of this, the length of treatment varies depending on the client's needs. We will work together to settle on a treatment schedule that best serves your needs.

What are your rates and do you accept insurance?

Individual Therapy

My rate for individual therapy is $150 per session. I do accept some health insurance plans, including Aetna, Healthnet, and United/Optum. If you have a PPO plan with a health insurance company I am not paneled with, I would be considered an out-of-network provider. I can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.

Business Partner Counseling

My rate for business partner counseling is $200 per session. These sessions are not billable through your health insurance.

Therapist Consultation and Supervision

My rate for therapist consultation and supervision is $150 per session. I sometimes offer group consultation and supervision for a rate of $75 per session.

I offer both in person and online sessions, based on the client's needs.

Clients who are local to the Long Beach, where my office is located, can attend in person sessions. If in person sessions are difficult to manage, virtual sessions are available. Some clients make use of a hybrid model where they make use of both in person and virtual sessions based on their schedule and availability.

I am licensed to provide therapy throughout the state of California and, as such, many of my clients live outside my local area. For these clients, sessions are conducted virtually.

Are sessions conducted in person or online?

What is the first session like?

In the first session, you will start to share your story, explore your goals and identify what changes you would like to make. It's also a way to see if we are a good fit. Do I seem like someone you can trust and open up to? In addition, I will ask you questions about your your life, your strengths, your relationships, and your challenges. Our first session together is the beginning of a relationship that will become the foundation for our work together. You will begin to identify some goals, and I will begin to strategize out how to help you get there.
